Test Cricket is Dying, Yuvraj Singh on the Future of Long Form Cricket

Test Cricket is Dying, Yuvraj Singh Shares Views on Downfall of Longest Format

The debate is on whether Test Cricket is dying or not. T20 cricket is without a doubt the most fun and popular format of the game, and the shortest format of the game has achieved new heights with the introduction of franchise leagues around the world. Former India international Yuvraj Singh discusses the demise of Test Cricket, the game’s longest format. He explains why cricket fans and players have lost interest in the game’s most significant format.

“Test cricket is dying. People want to watch T20 cricket; people want to play T20 cricket. Why would someone play five-day cricket and get five lakh rupees and today play T20 cricket and get 50 lakh? Players who have not made it to international cricket are getting 7-10 crores”

Yuvraj said on Sports 18’s Home of Heroes

“When you watch a T20 match and then a 50-over contest, it looks like a Test match.” ‘There are 30 overs to bat!’ they exclaim after 20 overs. So, T20 is definitely taking over everything,” he said.

“We all had a predetermined place to bat when we won the World Cup (2011).” I had the impression that the 2019 World Cup was poorly planned. They had Vijay Shankar bat at #4 despite having only played 5-7 ODIs, then replaced him with Rishabh Pant, who had only played four ODIs. Mohd. Kaif, (Dinesh) Mongia, and I had already played 50 ODIs when we played in the 2003 World Cup,” he remarked.

Yuvraj Singh has 402 international caps to his name, scoring 11, 778 runs and picking up as many as 150 wickets.
