Shane Watson

Shane Watson, the former Australian all-rounder, has been selected as the new Assistant Coach of the Delhi Capitals (DC) for the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Watson has played in the Indian Premier League for clubs such as Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Chennai Super Kings. As a player, he has also won two titles, the first with Rajasthan Royals in 2008 and the second with Chennai Super Kings in 2018.

Watson will join the DC coaching staff, which includes Ricky Ponting (Head Coach), Pravin Amre (Assistant Coach), Ajit Agarkar (Assistant Coach), and James Hopes, who has 3875 runs and 92 wickets in the IPL (Bowling Coach).

Shane Watson stated that the Indian Premier League is the best T20 tournament in the world and that he has enjoyed his experience as a player with three different teams while discussing his appointment. He went on to say that he is looking forward to working with Ricky Ponting, who is regarded as one of the top coaches in the world.

The IPL, the best T20 tournament in the world. I’ve got incredible memories as a player, first of all with Rajasthan Royals winning it in 2008, led by the incredible man Shane Warne, RCB and then CSK. I’ve got incredible memories as a player, and now coaching opportunities.

“It’s come to be able to work under the great Ricky Ponting. He was an amazing leader as a captain, and now to be able to coach under him. He is one of the best coaches in the world now. So, for me to be able to learn the ropes under Ricky, I am really excited,” Shane Watson said as quoted by Delhi Capitals (DC).

The former Australian all-rounder went on to say that the Delhi Capitals have a quality roster for the tournament’s 15th season, and now it’s up to them to win their first Indian Premier League trophy.

With Delhi Capitals, they got great squad, now is the time to win their first title. I am super pumped to get over there, work with the boys, help them out as much as I can and hopefully, we can win the first title. Can’t wait to get over there,” he added.

The Delhi Capitals have had a great run in the Indian Premier League over the last few of seasons, but they have yet to win their first trophy. The Delhi Capitals will be hoping to win their first title in the upcoming season of the cash-rich league, led by Rishabh Pant and featuring a number of world-class players.

From March 26 through May 29, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will kick off. The league stage games will be held in Maharashtra at four distinct venues: Wankhede Stadium, Dy Patil Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

The Wankhede Stadium and the Dy Patil Stadium will each host 20 matches, while the Brabourne Stadium and the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium will host 15 matches each.
