Prithvi Shaw performs poorly at fitness test at NCA ahead of IPL

Prithvi Shaw

According to a report released by PTI, Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw failed the yo-yo test at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, failing to meet the acceptable fitness grade. In order to pass the test, a player must reach the 16.5 mark. Shaw was unable to achieve a score of more than 15 points.

Prithvi Shaw, the Mumbai captain and Delhi Capitals hitter, failed a yo-yo test while at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Shaw reportedly achieved less than 16.5 on the yo-yo test, which is the BCCI’s recommended minimum score for males.

“These are just fitness updates. Obviously, Prithvi Shaw  will continue to play for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL,” a BCCI source told PTI. “It’s only a fitness metric; it’s not the be-all and end-all.”

“He’s played three Ranji matches in a row.” When you play three first-class games in a row, weariness can have an impact on your yo-yo score.”

Prithvi Shaw was one of a group of players that attended a camp at the NCA between March 5 and 14, according to ESPNcricinfo. Before joining their IPL teams, the players had to pass fitness tests at the end of the camp. The fitness tests administered at the conclusion of the camp would be used to establish a baseline for each player ahead of a hectic season.

Hardik Pandya, the India allrounder and Gujarat Titans captain, was also at the NCA and bowled and passed the yo-yo test.

“Let’s be clear about something. Only individuals who have recently recovered from an injury are eligible for fitness test clearance. “It was about receiving a general fitness evaluation going into the gruelling IPL season in Hardik’s instance,” a BCCI insider stated. “He’s a valuable asset who needs to assess his present fitness levels.”

“He didn’t need to bowl at NCA, but he has bowled in the 135 kmph range for a long time.” He passed the yo-yo test with flying colours on the second day, scoring 17 or higher, well over the cut-off level.”

“If Prithvi isn’t being considered on a regular basis, it’s possible that his fitness standards aren’t up to par, as anticipated of a Team India player,” the source told PTI.

Before the IPL 2022 auctions, the Delhi Capitals retained Shaw. He’ll start the game for the franchise once more, but this time with a new partner, David Warner.
