The forthcoming women’s T20 Challenge, which begins on Monday at MCA Stadium, is widely expected to be the final edition of the three-team tournament, which began as an exhibition match in 2018 before being upgraded to its present format in 2019 as it is evident that Women’s IPL will give more opportunities for the women cricketers to perform.
Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s T20I captain, believes Women’s IPL will give more opportunities to female cricketers and that the event’s legacy would be in providing a platform for young Indian cricketers to display their skills and cement their place in the Indian side. Supernovas will play Trailblazers in their first encounter on Monday.
“In the three years that we’ve played these matches, we’ve had some very good players like Shafali (Verma), Richa (Ghosh), and even Pooja (Vastrakar) who attempted to prove herself. Harmanpreet noted that the team has meticulously planned for adequate recovery time between back-to-back games.
“We realised there would be back-to-back matches when we received our schedule here. We addressed how we should handle ourselves due to back-to-back matches with our trainers on the first day. We scheduled extensive sessions, then had a break, and with back-to-back matches, today’s practise session will be shorter, with the goal of getting into recovery and being ready for the next game.”
The women’s IPL, on the other hand, is a clear stepping stone for women’s cricket in the country as Women’s IPL will give more opportunities to female cricketers. “When it comes to the women’s IPL, I believe it is critical for us to win the tournament right now. It is entirely in the hands of the BCCI as to how it should be organised, since they have always considered our best interests, and we are completely reliant on them.
