The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced a young squad for the upcoming five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe, starting July 6th.
The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee opted for fresh faces, appointing Shubman Gill as captain. Players like Nitish Kumar Reddy, Riyan Parag, and Abhishek Sharma earned their maiden call-ups following stellar performances in IPL 2024.
However, the exclusion of Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakravarthy raised eyebrows. The KKR spinner had a standout IPL season, playing a pivotal role in KKR’s championship win. He scalped 21 wickets in 15 matches with a miserly economy rate of around 8.
Following the squad announcement, Varun Chakravarthy took to his Instagram story with a cryptic message seemingly a dig at the BCCI selection committee.
His post simply read: “I wish I had a PR agency.”
