The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) erupted in celebration today as Secretary Jay Shah announced a special prize of ₹125 Crore for the Indian cricket team following their emphatic victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.
This win marks a historic moment for Indian cricket, ending a trophy drought that stretched over a decade. The Indian cricket team last won the World Cup back in 2011 under the leadership of MS Dhoni and since then India had failed to clinch the title.
A few months before the T20 World Cup, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah promised that Rohit Sharma would guide India to victory. Rohit fulfilled this pr omise by leading the team to a resounding win in Barbados.
Here’s what Jay Shah wrote on X:
“I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement!”
