Indian batting sensation Jemimah Rodrigues and experienced pacer Shikha Pandey have been signed by the Trinbago Knight Riders for the upcoming 2024 Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL).
The duo will join Australian stalwarts Meg Lanning and Jess Jonassen as the team’s overseas recruits for the season.
The 2024 WCPL will be a short, week-long affair with all seven matches scheduled to be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad from August 21 to 29.
“This is my first time ever playing in the WCPL,” said Rodrigues, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. “I’ve played for India in the Caribbean before, but I’m really excited to be representing the Knight Riders. We all know the incredible legacy they have built worldwide, and the TKR Women’s team, the 2022 champions, are a very proud outfit. I believe this tournament will be fantastic preparation for the Women’s World T20 in October, considering some of the best players globally will be participating.”
The Trinbago Knight Riders have opted to retain five of their players from the 2023 season. Deandra Dottin will continue to lead the side, with Shamila Connell, Kycia Knight, Zaida James, and Samara Ramnath also returning. The team will fill the remaining six slots in their squad at the WCPL draft scheduled for July.
“We’re thrilled to retain the core of our Caribbean players and sign four world-class overseas players for this year’s WCPL,” said Venky Mysore, CEO of the Knight Riders Group. “Deandra Dottin’s leadership has been instrumental since the inaugural year, and we’re delighted to have her captain the team once again.”
