In a recent revelation, Imam ul Haq discussed the overwhelming popularity of former Pakistan captain Babar Azam in Sri Lanka during the Asia Cup 2023.
The Asia Cup 2023, originally slated to take place in Pakistan, had to be played in a hybrid model after India, citing security and political disparities, declined to visit.
Meanwhile, Imam ul Haq, reflecting on the tournament, which was co-hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan, expressed that the locals in the island nation are big fans of Babar Azam, even more so than Virat Kohli.
Here’s what Imam ul Haq said during a podcast:
“People in Sri Lanka are crazy about Babar Azam. I have never seen this much craziness for any cricketer before. Although Virat Kohli was there, and we had a India versus Pakistan match, still the locals in Sri Lanka were crazy about Babar. I felt so good to see his popularity.”
