Following India’s T20 World Cup win on Saturday (June 29), Rohit Sharma replicated Lionel Messi’s iconic 2022 World Cup trophy-lifting celebration. The Men in Blue narrowly defeated South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final to claim their second title, having first won it in 2007 under MS Dhoni.
With South Africa seemingly in control needing 30 runs from the last five overs and with six wickets remaining, the Men in Blue staged a remarkable comeback. Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh delivered a stellar bowling performance to snatch a famous win.
As the moment arrived to lift the World Cup trophy, Rohit Sharma did so with flair, channelling the iconic Lionel Messi celebration. With the entire team on the podium, BCCI secretary Jay Shah presented the trophy to the Indian captain.
