Tensions ran high during the World Cup 2023 clash between Pakistan and South Africa in Chennai, with fast bowler Marco Jansen and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan engaging in a heated exchange on the pitch.
It all happened in the 7th over when Rizwan survived on the first ball itself as Jansen failed to take a difficult catch off his own bowling.
Following that delivery, Rizwan edged the ball off the South African seamer, directing it to the third man boundary. Once the ball reached the boundary, a verbal dispute broke out between the two players, prompting Gerald Coetzee to rush in and mediate.

Following that, on the last delivery of the over, Rizwan allowed a well-pitched delivery from Jansen to move away, leading to a second round of words being exchanged, albeit with less intensity than before.
Meanwhile, Rizwan’s innings was cut short as he departed for 31 (27) at the hands of Gerald Coetzee, who induced an edge straight into the gloves of wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock.
