The Pakistan skipper, Babar Azam, appeared devastated when the DRS review ruled him out during the World Cup clash against South Africa on Friday (Oct 27) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
Babar Azam, riding on the momentum of a recent half-century against Afghanistan, displayed his excellent form by notching up another fifty against South Africa. However, his innings was cut short when he was caught behind off Tabraiz Shamsi’s delivery while attempting a sweep shot on one knee.

Against all expectations, the wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock believed the ball had made contact with the bat. He successfully caught the ball behind the stumps and convinced captain Temba Bavuma to go for a DRS review, which ultimately favoured South Africa as Babar Azam was adjudged out.
Meanwhile, when the announcement flashed on the large screen, Pakistan‘s captain, Babar Azam, appeared utterly shattered, his eyes welling up with tears, and he walked back to the pavilion with a heavy heart, wearing a visibly despondent expression.
Pakistan’s 2023 World Cup campaign has been far from ideal. While they started with wins against Netherlands and Sri Lanka, the team suffered a demoralising streak of three losses to India, Afghanistan, and Australia.
This string of defeats has fueled discussions about Babar Azam’s potential removal as the Pakistan captain post-World Cup, possibly contributing to his evident distress.
