Pakistan Cricket legend Wasim Akram has unleashed a scathing critique on the national team and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following their disappointing loss to India in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Wasim Akram, taking to social media, urged the PCB for a drastic overhaul of the team. In a passionate video message, Akram argued that losing with a group of ‘new kids’ would be preferable to defeats with seasoned players lacking game awareness.
The Pakistan legend specifically mentioned Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi, suggesting the ongoing captaincy saga had created an unwelcome distraction during the T20 World Cup 2024.
“This was a truly disheartening day for Pakistan Cricket,” Akram stated. “While wins and losses are part of the game, the manner of this defeat demands serious introspection from both the players and the PCB. We need a complete revamp, with 6-7 new players brought into the team. Even if we lose with them, we’ll back them to build a fighting unit.”
Wasim Akram further criticized Mohammad Rizwan, suggesting a lack of situational awareness among the batters.
“Captains and coaches can’t teach situational awareness,” he stated. “Players need to understand who to attack and who to see off. Spoon-feeding them every detail won’t work.”
The legendary pacer urged the PCB chairman to take decisive action.
“Forget about who’s upset about not getting the captaincy. You’re working for the nation. Take bold steps and put a stop to these internal conflicts,” he implored.
The match against India was played on a decent batting surface at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. However, the Pakistan batting order crumbled, failing to chase down a modest target of 120 runs.
