VVS Laxman and his support team from the National Cricket Academy could join the Indian team for the upcoming five-match T20I series in Zimbabwe, while Gautam Gambhir is set to commence his coaching tenure during the Sri Lanka tour.
The squad for the Zimbabwe series is scheduled to be announced by the end of this week, approximately on June 22 or 23. At present, emerging talents from the IPL, selected as part of BCCI’s specific player pool, are participating in a camp supervised by Laxman at the NCA.

According to multiple reports, Gautam Gambhir is on the verge of being appointed as the next head coach by the BCCI, and an official announcement is just around the corner. Gambhir is expected to assume his role starting from the Sri Lanka tour.

“There is a possibility that Laxman along with some of the NCA coaches will travel with the new look squad to Zimbabwe. Laxman and the NCA team has always filled up whenever Rahul Dravid and the first team coaches have been taking periodic breaks during their stint,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

Senior players currently engaged in the T20 World Cup 2024 are likely to be rested for the Zimbabwe series, with promising young talents such as Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Reddy, Riyan Parag, who excelled in IPL 2024, expected to represent the team.
