Former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag has asked Rohit Sharma’s Indian team to win the T20 World Cup 2024, as a special send-off for the outgoing head coach, Rahul Dravid.
Rahul Dravid, who never won a world championship during his playing days, has experienced success coaching the Under-19 team but hasn’t yet seen the senior team reach those heights.
Under Rahul Dravid’s coaching, Team India reached the semifinals of the T20 World Cup in 2022, played in the World Test Championship final last year, and made it to the ODI World Cup 2023 final, but they couldn’t secure a win in any of these tournaments.
The current T20 World Cup 2024 is Rahul Dravid’s final assignment as head coach. He has confirmed that he will be stepping down and has not reapplied for the position, with Gautam Gambhir in line to succeed him.
Here’s what Virender Sehwag told Cricbuzz:
“We played the 2011 World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar. So, this T20 World Cup can be for Rahul Dravid. At least as a coach he gets to win the World Cup and get the badge of being a World Cup winner, which he didn’t get as a player, Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
Team India maintained an unbeaten streak throughout the group stage and Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024. They are set to play against England in the second semifinal, with the winner advancing to face South Africa in the finals.
