Big runs mean a big century or even a double, and here we will look at the top 10 youngest Indian batters who have scored a double century in Test cricket.

Key Stats:

21y 32d: Vinod Kambli remains the youngest-ever double century maker for India in the longest format of the game. He did it when he was just 21 years and 32 days old in a Test match against England at his home ground of Wankhede in Mumbai. India won the match quite comfortably by inflicting an innings defeat on the English.

He repeated the same feat 20 days later in a Test match against Zimbabwe and the game took place at Delhi. India won both these games by innings margins. These were only 2 double centuries made by Kambli in Tests.

21: Moreover, Kambli is also the youngest Indian to smash a ton in the ODI format. He was 21 when he scored his maiden ODI century.

20: At 21 years 277 days, the Sunil Gavaskar became the youngest Indian double century maker until it was broken by Kambli 2 decades later. The legendary batter also made a century in the first innings of the Port of Spain Test match. This was his debut series where he amassed 774 runs at an average of 154.80 with 4 centuries.

309: Virender Sehwag converted his first double century in Tests into a triple century. He did that when he scored a stunning 309 against Pakistan at Multan. The legendary opener holds the record for the highest individual score by an Indian in Tests (319) and is the only player from the country to smash 300 twice.

303: Karun Nair holds the Indian record of being the only batter from India to convert his maiden Test century into a triple century (3rd player overall after Bob Simpson of Australia and Sir Garfield Sobers) and this is his only 100+ score in Tests till date.

281: VVS Laxman’s 281 at the iconic Eden Gardens gave India an unlikely win over Australia after being asked to follow on and this innings is part of cricketing folklore. You can read more about this iconic match here.
