Shaheen Shah Afridi, the Pakistan fast bowler, will receive £5,000 from The Hundred cricket tournament despite his recent decision to withdraw from Welsh Fire.
The Hundred 2024 is scheduled to kick off on July 23 with the final of the tournament scheduled to be played on August 18, 2024.
Shaheen Afridi, recognized as one of the premier fast bowlers worldwide, was initially retained by Welsh Fire in the £100,000 category following his standout six-game stint in 2023.
However, he recently withdrew from the competition to participate in the Global T20 Canada, which will be played from July 25 to August 11. He will be representing the Toronto Nationals in the tournament.
Even after pulling out, Shaheen Afridi is slated to receive £5,000 from The Hundred, under a contract clause. This amount equals 5% of his initial contract, designated for image rights, a provision that allows players to retain this share irrespective of their participation in the event.
Welsh Fire have recruited New Zealand’s Matt Henry to step in for Shaheen Afridi, but for a reduced fee of £95,000, given replacement players do not benefit from the initial image rights payment.
