BCCI confirms VVS Laxman to Coach India T20 side, The current head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), will lead a Twenty20 team to Ireland, according to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). On June 26 and 28, India will play two T20 matches in Dublin.
“He will travel with the Indian team to Dublin,” BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said, confirming that Laxman will lead the India T20 team in the absence of Rahul Dravid, who will be with an Indian team in England.
Dravid, then-head of the NCA, made a similar arrangement last year when Ravi Shastri was in England with the Test team and led a white ball side to Sri Lanka.
Following the conclusion of the five-match home series against South Africa on June 19, the Indian T20 team will depart for Ireland where BCCI confirms VVS Laxman to Coach India T20 side. The winning team is yet to be determined.
India’s previous visit to Ireland was in 2018, and the country is looking to make history in England.
The last time India visited Ireland was in 2018, when they won the two-match T20I series 2-0. India, on the other side, leads the five-match Test series in England 2-1. (2021). Due to the COVID-19 fear, the final Test in Manchester was postponed. This year’s series final will take place in July. Last year, a similar situation emerged when then-head coach Ravi Shastri was in England with the Test team, while Dravid, who was the NCA head at the time, was in Sri Lanka with the limited-overs group. Meanwhile, tickets for the county’s warm-up Twenty20 game against India on July 3 have sold out, according to the Northamptonshire County Cricket Club (NCCC). “Northamptonshire County Cricket Club are delighted to welcome the Indian men’s T20 side to The County Ground this summer after hosting the Indian women’s team last year,” the NCCC said.
“The match is practically sold out, so we’re anticipating a fantastic atmosphere and some excellent cricket. The match will also be webcast live for fans of both sides to watch from afar “On Monday, a representative for the county told Cricbuzz (May 23). The match will be held at the Northampton County Ground (Wantage Road), which has a seating capacity of approximately 6500 people. Josh Cobb is the captain of the Twenty20 team for the county.
The Indian squad will play three warm-up games during their month-long tour of England, starting with a four-day match against Leicestershire on June 24 and two T20 matches against Derbyshire on July 1 and Northampton on July 3. Between July 7 and 17, India will play one Test (from July 1 to 5) and six white ball games (three T20Is and three ODIs).
Laxman is now the Director of Cricket at the Bengaluru-based National Cricket Academy. After Rahul Dravid was named head coach of the national team last year, he took up this post and now BCCI confirms VVS Laxman to Coach India T20 side.
