India batter Suryakumar Yadav squashed Shikhar Dhawan’s record of most T20I runs in a calendar year during the first T20I against South Africa in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old Yadav was just eight runs away from surpassing Dhawan in terms of runs scored in T20 Internationals in a calendar year and he achieved that by whacking a monstrous six off Anrich Nortje in the seventh over during an Indian inning.

As for the match, Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Chahar tormented South Africa’s batting lineup and restricted them to 106 for eight in 20 overs.
In reply, India chased down the target in 16.4 overs, thanks to KL Rahul (51*) and Suryakumar Yadav’s (50) match-winning partnership of 93 runs.
Having taken an early lead in the series, the Men in Blue will now take the field against wounded South Africa in the second T20I at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati on October 2.
Suryakumar Yadav has been India’s best T20I batter since his international debut.
