After Tom Moody, AB de Villiers, the ex-South African cricketer, has now raised his voice against the questionable umpiring in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
This isn’t the first time a questionable call regarding the white ball has occurred this season; it’s become a trend. Both on-field and off-field umpires have made incorrect decisions.
Taking to Twitter here’s what AB de Villiers said:
For goodness sake, PLEASE just clarify the wide ruling in Cricket! Really not so difficult.. We have technology, let’s use it properly. No need for thumb-sucking surely

Even in the recent clash between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings, a questionable decision occurred when the third umpire incorrectly deemed a non-wide ball, clearly inside the blue line, as a wide.
Even in the match before that between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, a couple of iffy decisions were made, and the fans were really upset about it, including Tom Moody. Taking to Twitter, here’s what he wrote:
“It’s time we considered having specialist 3rd umpires, too many questionable decisions are being made. Some umpires are better suited on the field, but the 3rd umpire requires experience and a certain skill set.
This suggestion was aimed purely at trying to continue to improve our game. Umpires, like players, have their strengths and weaknesses, human error is inevitable…. Specialists in specific roles why wouldn’t we?”
