Shubman Gill | Source: X.com
Shubman Gill, the Indian captain, has come under fire for moving Abhishek Sharma, a centurion in the second T20, to the number three position to make room for himself to open with Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Coming in at number three, Abhishek Sharma failed to make an impact in the third T20, scoring only 10 runs from nine deliveries before being dismissed. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill scored 66 runs off 49 balls, hitting seven boundaries and three sixes.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, playing his first match in the ongoing series scored 36 runs from 27 balls while Ruturaj Gaikwad delivered a brisk 49 off 28 balls, helping India reach a total of 182 runs in their 20 overs.
Here’s how fans have reacted to the demotion of Abhishek Sharma:

Am already disappointed with Gill’s captaincy that he stayed on as opener and sent Abhishek Sharma to No. 3. Sir, Gambhir, please look into the matter.

If the person you dropped from opening spot Abhishek Sharma played 50 balls he would have crossed the 100 mark atleast ???? pic.twitter.com/3w7DtSZDYP— Dinda Academy (@academy_dinda) July 10, 2024
Shubman Gill once said that he wanted to bat at No. 3. Now when there was an opportunity, instead of demoting himself at that position, he pushed down the centurian Abhishek Sharma. That seems a very SELFISH captaincy.

How insecure Shubman Gill is, when you have Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma who scored a century in last game but still you promote yourself in place of Abhishek Sharma. Now don’t come with Righty-Lefty combination Rutu is also right there who can open the innings. pic.twitter.com/LmGWYz24rU— ٍ (@omegascarwitch) July 10, 2024
