Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar is backing Rohit Sharma and the Indian team to win the T20 World Cup 2024. This comes after India’s thumping 68-run victory over England in the semi-final match.
Rohit Sharma and his team have raised their performance and secured a spot in the final of the tournament. Akhtar praised Rohit Sharma, calling him a ‘selfless captain’ who always puts the team’s needs first.
In a statement on his YouTube channel, Akhtar expressed his admiration for Rohit, saying that after narrowly missing out on winning the WTC and ODI World Cup last year, the 37-year-old deserves to lift the T20 World Cup trophy in 2024.
“Rohit Sharma has repeatedly said he wants to make an impact and win the trophy and so, deserves to win the cup. He is a big player, and it should end on a big note. He is a selfless captain, plays for the team, and is a complete batter,” Akhtar said.
Rohit has been performing well with the bat throughout the tournament, scoring 248 runs in 7 games at an average of 35.43 and a strike rate of 155.97. He has hit three half-centuries, with a top score of 92 against Australia.
India will face South Africa in the final on Saturday at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.
