In an astonishing move, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has re-appointed Babar Azam as the captain for the ODI and T20I teams, reversing their earlier decision.
After Pakistan‘s disappointing display at the 2023 ODI World Cup last year, Babar had voluntarily relinquished his position, prompting Shan Masood to assume the role of Test captain, while Shaheen Afridi took charge of the T20I team.
At the time, the ODI captaincy remained undecided, but a recent meeting between Babar and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has brought closure to the uncertainty surrounding the leadership role.
“Following unanimous recommendation from the PCB’s selection committee, Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Babar Azam as white-ball (ODI and T20I) captain of the Pakistan men’s cricket team,” PCB said on X (formerly Twitter)

Also, the PCB’s declaration ensures that Shan Masood retains the Test captaincy. Prior reports suggested that Babar would only consider resuming captaincy if granted leadership roles in all formats.
