Key Insights

Rohit is the leading six hitter for the Indian team with 48 sixes in the tournament, and is only next to Chris Gayle in the overall list.

Rohit Sharma’s T20 World Cup journey has been marked by several standout performances. In a crucial group match in 2007 against South Africa in Durban, Rohit’s first T20I fifty earned him the Player of the Match award, securing India’s spot in the semi-finals.

In 2010, Rohit played a memorable innings against Australia in Bridgetown, scoring an unbeaten 79 off 46 balls in a valiant effort chasing 185, with minimal support from his teammates.

His contributions continued in 2014, where he shone with half-centuries against West Indies and Bangladesh, alongside a crucial cameo in the semi-final against South Africa. India reached the final but lost to Sri Lanka despite Rohit’s 29 off 26 balls in the final.

Rohit took on the captaincy for the first time in a T20 World Cup in 2022. While his individual batting performance was modest, highlighted by one half-century in six games, his leadership guided India to the semi-finals where they were defeated by England.
