Sir Vivian Richards with Virat Kohli | Source: X.com
The former West Indies cricketer and legend Vivian Richards has issued a warning to Team India, who remain unbeaten in the T20 World Cup 2024 so far. He believes that peaking too early in such big tournaments may not always be beneficial for the team.
Notably, India national cricket team remained unbeaten throughout the group stage and finished at the top of Group A. They beat the arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, USA while their last match against Canada was washed out. They made it to the Super 8s smoothly.
During the Super 8s, the team led by Rohit Sharma secured victories against Afghanistan and Bangladesh. Their upcoming match against Australia is crucial, as a win would secure their spot in the semifinals.
Likewise, Team India faced a similar situation in the ODI World Cup 2023, which took place in India last year. They reached the final without losing a game, only to collapse against Australia in the final match at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
However, Vivian Richards has already issued a warning, stating that few failures are always important for the team. Nevertheless, he put faith in Virat Kohli’s ability to overcome his recent poor form and perform well for India in the critical stages.
Here’s what Vivian Richards told RevSportz:
“Well I have always believed especially in such long tournaments, when you peak too early, sometimes it is not too good. It is nice to have a few failures early and these are the championship rounds now, when you get into the Super 8, semis and this is where you need to get your act together. I would back Virat Kohli anyway to come good as he is a fighter and I have no doubts.”
