Legendary wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal has launched a scathing attack on the Pakistan cricket team following their narrow defeat to India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Kamran Akmal’s comments come amidst growing anger in Pakistan after the team’s failure to chase down a modest target of 120 runs.
Pakistan’s bowling attack, led by Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf who took three wickets each, had restricted India to a score of just 119.
However, their batting lineup collapsed under pressure and could only manage 113 runs, with Jasprit Bumrah‘s dismissal of Mohammad Rizwan proving to be a crucial turning point.
Kamran Akmal‘s criticism went beyond the team’s performance in this particular match. He questioned the entire selection process, suggesting the current team is unfit to compete at the highest level.
In a scathing remark, Kamran Akmal stated that Pakistan “should now start playing against Australia’s and England’s women’s teams.”
“They should stop playing against the men’s teams in international cricket. Instead, they should compete against the women of England and Australia. The team has come down to this level. Several players don’t deserve to be a part of the World Cup squad, but they are playing.”
“They are not fit and can’t even field properly but continue to be a part of Pakistan’s national team. The PCB chairman shouldn’t have allowed the selection of players who came through the back door entry. He should have shut the mouth of the person who gave him the wrong suggestions on the selection process,” Kamran Akmal said on ARY News.
Kamran Akmal elaborated on his comments, accusing the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of poor selection and a lack of transparency.
The Pakistan cricketer criticized the presence of “undeserving” players in the World Cup squad, suggesting they benefited from “back door entry”.
Kamran Akmal also aimed his criticism at the PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, urging him to take responsibility for the selection process.
