The Gujarat Titans will make their IPL debut on Monday against the Lucknow Super Giants, who are also making their debut. Ahead of the clash the team announced Rashid Khan named Vice Captain of the Gujrat team.
According to CricTracker, the Gujarat Titans are set to play their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) today (Monday). The Titans will play fellow debutants Lucknow Super Giants at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium to kick off their IPL campaign. The highly anticipated duel between GT and LSG will be shown live on Star Sports Network. Fans can now watch the fourth match of the IPL 2022 on Disney+ Hotstar.
Rashid Khan named vice captain comes as a pleasent surprise as he was one of Gujarat Titans’ three players selected before the IPL mega auction. The Ahmedabad-based teams paid INR 15 crore each for India all-rounder Hardik Pandya and the Afghan spin wizard, as well as INR 7 crore for India top-order batsman Shubman Gill. Rashid Khan was purchased by the Titans for 15 ,000,000 Indian rupees after capturing Afghanistan in a number of international matches.
The Titans shared a snapshot of Rashid laughing with skipper Hardik Pandya on their Instagram account. The caption said, “Rashid bhai becomes our vice-captain.”
The ace leggie is eager to learn from Pandya and is willing to share his insights with the captain. “Because he’s the captain, it’ll be a fantastic opportunity for me to soak up as much information as possible.”
“I’ll also talk about my experiences playing in various leagues.” This is a new team, and he is the new captain. So there would undoubtedly be a plethora of thoughts running through his head,” Rashid speculated.
Gujurat Titans posted a video tweet on Monday, hours before their first IPL match, saying, “In yet another #SeasonOfFirsts, Rashid bhai becomes our Vice Captain!”
Rashid Khan was a regular for Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2017 to 2021, and is regarded as one of the best bowlers in the world. He formerly served as the captain of Afghanistan’s national cricket team.
The 15th edition of the IPL began on Saturday at Wankhede Stadium with a thrilling match between the last season’s finalists, Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders.
The defending champions, CSK, were upset by KKR by six wickets.
Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings both won dramatic games over Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore on the second day of the season.
The news of Rashid Khan named Vice Captain is a testament to the growing stature of the talented spinner.
