Babar Azam Gone for Duck on His T20I Comeback | Source: X.com

Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam endured a night to forget as he was dismissed for a duck and dropped a sitter during the first T20I against South Africa in Rawalpindi on Tuesday.

Making his return to the format after almost a year, Babar’s comeback turned disastrous in front of his home crowd.

Facing just two balls, Babar was undone by Corbin Bosch’s sharp pace in the sixth over of Pakistan’s innings.

Trying to punch a good-length delivery through the off side, he ended up mistiming it straight to Reeza Hendricks at cover.

The former captain walked back dejectedly as South African players celebrated a massive early breakthrough.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Babar’s fielding error earlier in the match proved equally costly. In the 17th over of South Africa’s innings, George Linde skied one straight towards long-on, where Babar settled under it comfortably.

But to everyone’s shock, the ball slipped through his hands and hit the turf. Linde made the most of that reprieve, hammering 36 off 22 balls as South Africa reached 194/9 in their 20 overs.

Pakistan’s chase never really got going after Babar’s early dismissal. The crowd, which had been chanting his name minutes earlier, was left stunned by the twin setbacks.

Meanwhile, fans on social media didn’t hold back, brutally trolling the 30-year-old for what they called a “nightmare comeback.”
