Former England captain, Nasser Hussain, lauded Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir for his stellar bowling for the Oval Invincibles in the inaugural match of The Hundred 2024.
Mohammad Amir, representing the Oval Invincibles in the current 4th season of The Hundred, claimed two wickets in 15 balls while delivering nine dot balls against the Birmingham Phoenix.
On air during Mohammad Amir’s spell, Nasser Hussain was so impressed by Amir’s brilliant bowling that he recalled his remarkable performance against India in the 2017 Champions Trophy, held at the same venue, The Oval.
It was a disastrous day for Team India, as they suffered a heavy defeat by 180 runs, with Pakistan lifting the Champions Trophy. Mohammad Amir was the main architect of India’s collapse, taking the top three wickets.
Here’s what Nasser Hussain said:
“He likes bowling here. 2017 Champions Trophy final. Shikhar Dawan, India gone. Rohit Sharma, India gone. Virat Kohli gone. 3 for 16 he got in that Champions Trophy final, bowling this end.”
Interestingly, Mohammad Amir was granted the No Objection Certificate by the Pakistan Cricket Board to play in The Hundred 2024, but other cricketers, including Naseem Shah, have not received the NOC from the PCB.
