Key Insights

The Mumbai Indians have won the IPL title 5 times. Their maiden title victory came in 2013, followed by 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020.

All 5 title triumphs came under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, making him the first skipper to win the trophy 5 times. Moreover, Rohit is the second-most successful captain in IPL history, with 87 wins to his name.

When MI lifted the IPL trophy for the 5th time in 2020, they became only the second team to win the tournament in consecutive seasons after CSK (2010 and 2011).

The Mumbai-based team has made it to the playoffs in 10 seasons. Apart from 5 victories, MI has been runner-up once and reached Qualifier 2 and Eliminator twice each (including the 2nd Qualifying Final and Elimination Final).

The Mumbai Indians’ 6 IPL Final appearances are the second most after CSK’s tally of 10.

13 wins registered by MI in the 2013 season are the joint-most victories in a single IPL season (including the knockouts/playoffs).

The Indians have logged 10 or more wins in 8 different IPL seasons, trailing CSK’s record of 9 seasons.

The 2022 IPL edition was the worst for MI in terms of overall performance. This was the first season where they couldn’t even win 5 matches (4 wins) and finished last on the points table (10th place).

2008, 2016, 2018, and 2021 were identical seasons for Mumbai, finishing 5th on the points table.
