The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have confirmed their retention list ahead of the IPL 2025 mega option, becoming the second team after Sunrisers Hyderabad to submit their retained players to the BCCI. In a surprising move, several reports suggest that LSG has decided to release their skipper, KL Rahul, as they eye a leadership change for the upcoming season.

Nicholas Pooran Likely to Take Over Captaincy

The franchise seems to be planning a fresh start by appointing Nicholas Pooran as the new captain. Rahul, who led the team since its inception in 2022, might not find a place in the retained squad unless the team management rethinks its strategy at the last moment. The upcoming auction, however, could still give LSG an advantage, as they will have a Right to Match (RTM) card in hand. 

LSG’s Retentions and Player Salaries

Lucknow Super Giants have locked in five players for the 2025 season. Among them, Pooran is retained at a premium value of Rs 18 crore, reflecting the team’s trust in him not only as a performer but also as a potential leader.
