Umar Gul appointed as Afghanistan bowling coach, massive boost for ACB

Umar Gul appointed as Afghanistan bowling coach

Umar Gul appointed as Afghanistan bowling coach is the first since Graham Thorpe was appointed as the team’s head coach earlier this week

Following the appointment of Graham Thorpe as head coach, Umar Gul appointed as Afghanistan bowling coach.

In 2020, the ex-Pakistan quick withdrew from all cricket and now works as the bowling coach for the Quetta Gladiators.

He’s also played in the Kashmir Premier League and the Lanka Premier League.

Gul took 427 wickets in 47 Tests, 130 one-day internationals, and 60 T20Is for his country.

“After coaching at PSL, KPL, LPL and domestic level, it is a pleasure to be associated with an international team. I will try my best to help the Afghan bowlers with my experience,” Gul was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.

Umar Gul appointed as Afghanistan bowling coach comes in the same time as Graham Thorpe, who was fired by England after the Ashes, was named head coach of the team beginning in April.

Following Lance Kluesner’s departure in November, Stuart Law was put in command of the team on an interim basis.

In August, the men’s squad will play Ireland in a five-match T20 series as part of their preparations for the T20 World Cup in Australia.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed, Mohammad Nabi, and Fazalhaq Farooqi are five Afghan players currently playing in the Indian Premier League.

The remaining players have gone to a training camp in the United Arab Emirates with local coaches.

Umar Gul appointed as Afghanistan bowling coach will work with the club for three weeks, and if things go well, he may be given an extension.
