IPL 2022: Watson confirms Warner and Nortje available for selection in clash v LSG

Warner and Nortje available

On Wednesday, Delhi Capitals assistant coach Shane Watson stated that Warner and Nortje available for Thursday’s match against the Lucknow Super Giants at the DY Patil Stadium.
The news of Warner and Nortje available is a significant boost for Delhi, who are looking to rebound after a 14-run setback to Gujarat Titans in Pune on Saturday.

“David Warner is no longer in quarantine and will be available for tomorrow night’s game, which is a huge game. Anrich Nortje has been doing exceptionally well since arriving in India a few of weeks ago. He passed his last fitness test and was declared fit for selection last night, which is exciting since he is now available for selection “Watson remarked in a virtual press conference before the game.

Watson also stated that Mitchell Marsh, Australia’s all-rounder, is unlikely for selection for the match against Lucknow due to his ongoing recovery from a hip flexor injury acquired during ODI training against Pakistan.

“Mitch Marsh is making excellent progress. Regardless of whether he is available for selection, there is still one more training session to complete tonight. But he’s been making great progress, which is wonderful given the firepower he provides to the Delhi squad.”

With all of Delhi’s players now in the team bubble and Warner and Nortje available, Watson believes the support staff’s next task will be to figure out the best lineup for the remainder of the tournament.

“The lineup appears to be extremely strong and well-balanced, with match-winners throughout. That is the intriguing aspect of the Delhi Capitals: they have a plethora of world-class possibilities. Now that everyone is available, the main issue in the coming games will be figuring out what the best combinations and responsibilities will be.

“That’s the biggest difficulty for us in terms of coaching and selection: figuring out what the correct responsibilities are for each player in order to build a super squad in which everyone plays above themselves.

“That’s a great challenge to be able to have because now we have got an incredible quality of cricketers in the squad. But that’s what we will have to do quicker as a team is able to put those pieces together with all the players available, which will determine how they get to stand on a role throughout this tournament.”

The news Warner and Nortje are available for the match is a significant boost for Delhi Capitals as well as the fans.
