While the Delhi Capitals look for their second win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, captain Rishabh Pant fined Rs 12 lakh for failing to maintain the acceptable over-rate against the Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday. Pant was the only one penalized because it was his first infraction, but if the offence is repeated, the consequences might be severe.
The IPL confirmed Pant’s sentence in a statement on their official website. “The Delhi Capitals have been penalized for maintaining a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 encounter against the Lucknow Super Giants at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 7,” the statement stated.
“Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant fined Rs 12 lakhs for the team’s first breach of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences.”
According to the rules, if Pant fails to maintain the required over-rate in another match involving the Delhi Capitals, he would be fined INR 24 lakh, and ten other members of the team will have six lakhs or 25% of their match costs removed from their pockets (whichever is less).
If the infraction is committed a third time, the fielding captain will not only be penalised 30% of his match fees, but will also be barred from playing for the rest of the season. In addition, the other ten players will be fined 12 lakhs, or half of their match fees (depending on which amount is lesser).
In the match between the Delhi Capitals and the Lucknow Super Giants, Pant’s team was defeated by KL Rahul and Co., who scored a thrilling 6-wicket triumph. With only one win in three games, Delhi is now at seventh in the points standings. Lucknow, on the other hand, is in second place after three victories in four games.
