Deepak Chahar’s back injury has all but ended his chances of playing in the upcoming IPL 2022, increasing to the woes of Chennai Super Kings.
The defending champions, who entered the event without Chahar, their strike bowler, have lost all four of their matches so far in the 10-team league and are at the bottom of the points standings.
While CSK had always stated that their 14 crore acquisition would be healthy by the second week of April, the severity of the rupture meant that “no prospect of his availability” in the tournament.
According to sources, the back injury occurred while the India and CSK bowler was undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy. Deepak Chahar ruled out of IPL, has come as a big shock to the defending champion.
The right-arm swing bowler, who was recovering from a quadriceps tear sustained during India’s T20I series against the West Indies in February, has now suffered a back injury at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy.
This is a major setback for Chahar’s IPL team, CSK, who are already struggling to find balance in their lineup without the bowler, who can also bat and hit big shots down the order. CSK has paid a whopping INR 14 crores for the player at the IPL auction in 2022.
CSK, on the other side, has lost all four of their IPL 2022 first-round matches thus far. With 0 points and a net run rate of -1.211, the squad is at the bottom of the standings. They’ll play Royal Challengers Bangalore at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday night.
