Matthew Mott named head coach of England men’s white-ball team. He had been in command of the Australian women’s team since 2015, leading them to back-to-back Twenty20 World Cup victories as well as the 50-over World Cup earlier this year.
The England Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Wednesday that Matthew Mott named head coach of England men’s white-ball team.
The 48-year-old Australian has signed a four-year contract and will lead England in a three-match one-day international series against the Netherlands next month after Matthew Mott named head coach of England men’s white-ball team.
Mott had been in command of the Australian women’s team since 2015, leading them to back-to-back Twenty20 World Cups and the 50-over World Cup earlier this year.
During his rule, they won four consecutive Ashes series, and their run of 26 straight ODI victories is a record in both men’s and women’s cricket.
Before becoming Australia’s women’s head coach in 2015, Mott led New South Wales to victory in the now-defunct Champions League T20 tournament in 2009, then coached Glamorgan to the Yorkshire Bank 40 final in 2013, and then worked as a consultant for Ireland during the 2015 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. In 2009, he also served as an assistant coach with the Kolkata Knight Riders and now Matthew Mott named head coach of England men’s white-ball team.
“He has had an incredible coaching journey with so many varied experiences… he was outstanding in the interview process and the perfect fit for our white-ball teams. We are lucky to be able to appoint a head coach that has not only been involved in international cricket for the last few years but also worked in franchise cricket around the world.”

Mott’s appointment comes after a slew of changes in English cricket, including Ben Stokes’ replacement as Test captain and Brendon McCullum’s appointment as coach in the longer format.
“I was drawn to this position because of the opportunity to work with such an established and successful team,” Mott said.
“The split roles and the chance to work alongside Brendon McCullum in his red-ball job is an opportunity that I am really excited about, and it provides the perfect balance for my family.”
On June 17, England will play the Netherlands in the maiden One-Day International in Amsterdam.
