Former Sri Lankan batter, Kumar Sangakkara, has spoken out regarding the speculation surrounding his possible appointment as the head coach of the England cricket team.
The England and Wales Cricket Board has been searching for a new head coach for England’s white-ball cricket team following their disappointing performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup and their early exit from the 2023 ODI World Cup.
England White-Ball Coaching Is An Interesting Prospect – Kumar Sangakkara
There were earlier reports that the board had approached Eoin Morgan, but the World Cup-winning captain dispelled the rumors, stating he is neither available nor interested in taking on such a significant role.
Later, reports emerged that Kumar Sangakkara was approached for the position. The former Sri Lankan batter has now responded, describing the opportunity to coach the England cricket team as an intriguing prospect.
“Well, I know (my name) has been mentioned for some reason, but there has not been any approach as such. I think the England white-ball job is an exciting prospect for anyone, but there are so many good candidates out there,” Sangakkara told PA News Agency.
“I am very happy at the moment. The Rajasthan Royals experience has been very fulfilling and it has been a job I have really enjoyed over the last four years,” Sangakkara added.
Kumar Sangakkara currently serves as the director of cricket and head coach for the Rajasthan Royals. However, if he were to take on the role of England head coach, he would need to step down from his position with the Royals.
