Gautam Gambhir, the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has opened up about his rivalry with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) ahead of the much-anticipated clash between the two teams, set to take place on March 29 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
In a recent video released by Star Sports, the broadcaster of IPL, Gautam Gambhir can be seen discussing the rivalry with RCB:
“One team which I always wanted to beat, probably even in my dreams, was RCB. They are the second most high-profile team and flamboyant squad, with the owner and players like Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. Honestly, they haven’t won anything and still thought that they won everything. That kind of attitude, I can’t take that,” Gambhir said on Star Sports.
Notably, RCB have not managed to beat the Kolkata Knight Riders at their home ground since 2016.
“The three best wins KKR had was against RCB. Brendon McCullum slammed RCB on the opening day of IPL in 2008, 49 all out RCB, 100 scored in powerplay overs against RCB with Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine going after the bowlers.”
“RCB were a solid team with players like Gayle, Virat and AB de Villiers in the squad. One thing I would love to do again is beat RCB,” Gambhir added.
After all the drama from last year when Gautam Gambhir mentored the Lucknow Super Giants and clashed with Virat Kohli, and considering the intense rivalry between Gambhir and Kohli, the upcoming RCB vs KKR match in IPL 2024 is bound to be a thriller.
