Who could have predicted that the Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, instrumental in Australia’s victory in the recent World Cup 2023, would struggle so profoundly in IPL 2024? After a mere six matches, he was dropped from the playing 11 against SRH in the latest fixture at M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
In the six matches he played for RCB, he could only manage 32 runs, including two ducks, at a strike rate of 94. Apart from that, he registered three single-digit scores and only managed to cross the 20-run mark once. Speaking on his batting form, former Indian cricketer and legend Sunil Gavaskar ripped him apart.

Sunil Gavaskar raised doubts about his batting abilities, particularly his performance against pace bowlers. Here’s what the cricketer-turned-commentator told Star Sports:
“He has not been able to play fast bowling, period. Balls bouncing to his chest or shoulder height are troubling him. He can whack every ball below his waist height but not the ones above that.”
“In India, the weather till April 20 favours fast bowling on Indian tracks. And when the pacers will reap success, Maxwell will surely find himself at the receiving end. It is just as we say in Hindi, “Naam Bade Par Darshan Chote”
RCB lost their sixth match of the tournament out of the seven matches they have played so far. Their bowling performance this season has been below par, making the upcoming matches crucial for them to win if they aim to remain in contention for the playoffs.
