Jasprit Bumrah’s extraordinary journey in the cricketing world has been nothing short of sensational. Coming from Gujarat, this tall and agile bowler has become India’s go-to bowler across formats.
However, as per a recent revelation, there was a time when the Indian speedster had considered shifting to Canada for better opportunities. During a heartfelt discussion with his wife, Sanjana Ganesan, Bumrah shared insights into his early dreams, recalling how he once contemplated moving to Canada as a ‘backup plan’ before his cricketing career took off.
“Every boy wants to make it big and play cricket. Every street has 25 players who want to play for India. You have to have a backup plan,” Japrit Bumrah said.
But here’s where it gets interesting when Bumrah’s mother expressed her reservations about the family moving to a different culture. Funny enough, it ended up being the best thing ever as Bumrah’s stellar run with Team India and the Mumbai Indians took off.
“I am very happy and very lucky that things worked out. Otherwise, I don’t know if I would have tried to play for the Canadian team and do something there as well. Glad it worked out here. I am playing for the Indian team and Mumbai Indians,” he added.
The 30-year-old has notched up 382 wickets for India across 187 matches in all formats. Since his debut with MI in 2013, Bumrah has claimed 150 wickets in 124 appearances, playing a key role in all five of their IPL victories.
