The former Indian cricketer, Navjot Singh Sidhu, believes that Rohit Sharma should not feel inferior while playing under the newly appointed captain of Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya, in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.
Notably, there has been a lot of hue and cry ever since Hardik Pandya took the reins of Mumbai Indians, leaving behind Gujarat Titans, whom he led to the IPL title in the 2022 season and to the finals in 2023 before rejoining his old team, Mumbai Indians, in a monetary deal.

According to several reports, Hardik Pandya insisted on becoming the captain of Mumbai Indians as a condition for joining the team. In compliance, he was appointed captain, replacing the five-time IPL title-winning captain, Rohit Sharma.
Shedding light on this, Navjot Singh Sidhu, who made a comeback to commentary after nearly a decade, believes that Rohit should not have any problem while playing under Hardik Pandya.

“I have played in an Indian team where five captains used to pay together. Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Krishnamachari Srikkanth and Ravi Shastri. Pick up a brick and you will find a captain both above and below it. There were no issues because they were playing for their nation. The motivation was to play for your country. So, playing under Hardik does not make Rohit smaller,” Sidhu said on Star Sports.

‘Dhoni Has Passed The Baton Already’ – Navjot Singh Sidhu
The politician-turned-commentator even gave an example of MS Dhoni, who in the past played under Steve Smith, and Ravindra Jadeja, and now handed over the captaincy to the young Ruturaj Gaikwad.

“Dhoni has passed the baton already and that could have happened in Mumbai Indians as well. But this is a franchise and they look at the performances. They gave it three years and when it did not work, they got a new person for the job. You need to accept it. But Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni are great players. A dwarf is a dwarf even if he is standing at the top of a mountain and a God is a God even if they are standing at the bottom of a well,” Sidhu added.

Mumbai Indians will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in their second game of the IPL 2024 on Wednesday, March 27 at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.
