Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach of Team India is set to conclude after the T20 World Cup 2024, with the BCCI expected to announce his successor soon. According to several reports, Gautam Gambhir is the frontrunner for the role.
However, in a recent interview, Gautam Gambhir remained evasive when questioned about the speculation, further fueling uncertainty over whether he will indeed take up the position.

Earlier this year, Gambhir was appointed as the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of IPL 2024, leading the team to their third IPL title. Gambhir received widespread acclaim from the KKR team members for his role in their success.
During a recent event, Gambhir deflected questions about the India head coach role, urging the media not to press him for answers about distant future plans.

“I don’t look that far ahead. You’re grilling me with tough questions. It’s hard to say right now. All I can say is I’m happy where I am, just finished a great journey, so let’s savor that. I’m in a good place right now,” Gambhir said in a statement quoted by NDTV Sports.

“If your intent is to keep the team ahead of any individual, things will fall into place. Whether it happens today, tomorrow, or someday, it will happen. But focusing on helping individuals perform will only harm the team. My role as a mentor is to ensure KKR wins, not to focus solely on individual performances,” he added.

While Gambhir has refrained from disclosing further details, it is speculated that the BCCI may have advised him to maintain silence until an official announcement is made, ensuring the board’s protocols are upheld.
