Harbhajan Singh, a former Indian spinner, believes that Virat Kohli’s performance in the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka was very underrated and not much talked about, but it was crucial for the team’s victory.
Chasing 275 against Sri Lanka in the World Cup final, Team India was in a terrible position with two early wickets, Sehwag scoring zero, and Sachin managing only 18 runs.
The young Virat Kohli scored 35 runs from 49 balls and formed an 83-run partnership with Gautam Gambhir to provide stability to Team India’s innings before Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni finished the game for India.
While Gautam Gambhir scored 97 runs, and MS Dhoni remained unbeaten on 91, Harbhajan Singh believes that Virat Kohli’s knock was also crucial for Team India on that day
Here’s what the former Indian spinner said on StarSports:
‘Virat Kohli’s innings in the 2011 World Cup Final was very crucial, when we lost two quick wickets, and he played an important innings and made a brilliant partnership; no one talked about that innings more, but that was very crucial.
