Sunil Gavaskar Defends Rohit Sharma against Left-Arm Pacer Weakness | Source: X.com
Sunil Gavaskar took a dig at the broadcaster following Rohit Sharma’s brilliant performance against Australia, where he dismantled their bowling attack at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia.
After being asked to bat first upon losing the toss, Rohit Sharma unleashed his fury, hammering 92 runs off just 41 balls. With seven boundaries and eight sixes, he had the Aussie bowlers at his mercy, especially Mitchell Starc.
Known for his supposed weakness against left-arm pace in T20s, Rohit Sharma turned the tables on Mitchell Starc, hammering him for four sixes and a boundary in one over, scoring 29 runs. Although Rohit was dismissed by Starc in the 12th over, the damage had already been done.
After Rohit Sharma’s explosive innings, the legendary Sunil Gavaskar took a dig at the broadcaster for highlighting stats about Rohit Sharma’s weakness against left-arm pacers in T20I cricket.
Sunil Gavaskar sarcastically questioned Star Sports, asking if they would do another segment on Rohit Sharma’s weakness against left-arm seamers after he got out to Mitchell Starc following his blitzkrieg knock.
“Just thinking about Rohit Sharma. He once again got out to a left-hander. So before the next match, are we going to do another segment about his weakness against left-handers? He got out to a left hander, no? So another segment next time,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
As for the match, India secured a spot in the T20 World Cup semifinals with a stellar batting performance by captain Rohit Sharma and a superb bowling effort from Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah, defeating Australia by 24 runs.
