India’s captain Rohit Sharma praises Rishabh Pant and his batting style, stating that he is a guy who can transform the game at any time.
India won the second Test by 238 runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday, clinching the two-match series 2-0.
“We know how he bats and, as a team, we just want to give him that freedom to bat in the way that he wants to bat. But also keep in mind certain situations of the game, where the game is going, we have conveyed that to him but we want to stick with his game plan as a team,”
Rohit Sharma during a post-match press conference.
“It just seems to get better and get better, his game-plans. There will be times when you will smash your head and say ‘why did he play that shot’, but again, we need to be ready to accept that with him when he bats. He is somebody who can change the game literally in half an hour or 40 minutes of the game. I think what comes with Rishabh Pant, we are ready to accept that,”
Rohit led the squad in Test cricket for the first time in this series. He stated that he attempted to improve his instincts as well as analyse the game. Rohit Sharma praises Rishabh Pant for the way he batted.
“There are a few veteran individuals of the team who are well-versed in the game and can offer their opinions. I’ve also included a game reading. But, finally, you operate on instinct, and my captaincy philosophy is to make a decision based on what feels right to you, while keeping the game in mind. I attempt to figure out what’s going on on the ground “he stated
Rohit Sharma praises Rishabh Pant and Bumrah too
Rohit Sharma praises Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, the pacer, was also complimented by the skipper for his fierce bowling effort in the two-match series.
“Coming out and bowling like that in these conditions demonstrates his skill and ability. Someone like Bumrah is always in the game, no matter what the circumstances are “said the captain.
“Certain skill sets are required to bowl on certain pitches. And he appears to bring those skill sets into the game depending on the level of pitch assistance he receives. We saw a different type of pitch in Mohali, and he was still efficient. This was a unique type of pitch. It was spinning and jumping, and everything for spinners was going on” he added.
Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne and Niroshan Dickwella put on a 50-run partnership for the fifth wicket after resuming the post-Tea session at 151/4. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel ended the 55-run partnership by dismissing wicket-keeper batsman Dickwella for 12 after he was stumped by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant.
Charith Asalanka joined his skipper but couldn’t help much as he became Axar Patel’s second victim, caught by Rohit Sharma for 5, putting Lankans in even more danger at 180/6.
Karunaratne continued to battle as he scored a century and, combined with Lasith Embuldeniya, lifted Sri Lanka’s total past 200 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah was reintroduced into the attack, and the bowler dismissed centurion Karunaratne for 107, reducing the visitors to 204 for the loss of their seventh wicket. Lasith Embuldeniya was dismissed leg before wicket for 2 in the next over.
Bumrah struck for the third time in the innings, dismissing tail-ender Suranga Lakmal for one and claiming his eighth wicket of the game. Vishwa Fernando was removed for 2 by Ashwin, who bowled out the visitors for 208 runs. In the second innings, Ashwin took four wickets.
