India’s new year series against Sri Lanka ended on a high note, thanks to some exhilarating batting from Virat Kohli and the Openers and some fierce new-ball bowling from Mohammed Siraj. Others played their part too.
The focus now has shifted to the next project on line, which is the touring New Zealanders minus some big names like Kane Williamson and Tim Southee due to workload reasons.
The white-ball teams of India and New Zealand will face each other in three ODIs and as many T20Is starting from Wednesday (January 18). It is to be noted that the Kiwis recently flopped the Men in Green in Pakistan in the 50-overs series. Hence, they will be keen to continue their winning run in the subcontinent.
Rohit Sharma will continue to lead the Indian side in ODIs, while Hardik Pandya will captain the hosts in the shortest format.
On the other hand, in the absence of Kane Williamson, wicketkeeper-batter Tom Latham will be seen in the role of New Zealand skipper during the ODIs. Meanwhile, Mitchell Santner will lead the Blackcaps in T20Is.
