There was a time in International Cricket when Indian Cricketers attracted the limelight due to the salary they were paid by the BCCI and the contract money fixed on them by different Advertisement agencies. Although Indian players are still paid in huge numbers, the England players aren’t far away in terms of their pay package.

After England’s loss to Bangladesh in the 2015 limited overs World Cup in Australia, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) made some sensible changes as far as having three different squads for three formats is concerned and also making changes in the players’ salaries. The limited overs and T20 Champions have witnessed a decent rise in their earnings.

So how much do the English players earn?

Let’s go through this in detail.

The types of Contracts awarded by ECB

Just before the T20 World Cup in Australia, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) renewed the contracts for the men’s team for one year. T20 specialist Liam Livingstone and Ben Foakes, a wicket-keeper batsman in Test matches, are included in the list of contracted players.

Overall, the ECB classify players in three different contract lists.

Central contracts:

Centrally contracted players are players who are almost permanent members in the Test and 50-overs formats. ECB dictates their availabilities for the county matches and the globally played leagues. Separate deals for Red and White ball cricket were awarded in 2016, and some players were included in both lists. Later, in 2021, it was decided that players who can be available in all formats would be added to the contract list.

Players list: Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Jos Buttler, Zak Crawley, Sam Curran, Ben Foakes, Jack Leach, Liam Livingstone, Ollie Pope, Adil Rashid, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood

Increment contracts

Increment contracts are given to players who are on the rise and are on the verge of naming themselves for the central contracts.

Players list: Harry Brook, Dawid Malan, Matthew Potts, Jason Roy, Reece Topley, David Willey

Pace Bowling Development Contracts

This is a separate contract list for the back-up fast bowlers to accommodate the increasing international schedules and monitor the bench pace strength.

Players list: Brydon Carse, Matthew Fisher, Saqib Mahmood, Craig Overton, Jamie Overton, Olly Stone
