Dinesh Karthik has joined the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as their batting coach and mentor for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This comes after Dinesh Karthik announced his retirement from the IPL earlier this year following an impressive season with RCB.
In IPL 2024, Karthik was one of RCB’s top run-scorers. He amassed 326 runs in 15 matches, averaging 36.22 with a blistering strike rate of 187.35. His knock of 83 was his highest score, and he notched up two crucial half-centuries.
Dinesh Karthik’s retirement announcement on his 39th birthday was an emotional one. He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his loved ones for their unwavering support throughout his career. After much deliberation, Dinesh Karthik decided to call time on his playing days and embrace “new challenges.”
“The outpouring of affection, support, and love has been overwhelming,” Karthik said. “I am incredibly grateful to all the fans who made this journey so special.”
“After careful consideration, I’ve decided to move on from playing representative cricket. This is an official announcement of my retirement. I am putting my playing days behind me as I step up for the exciting new challenges that await,” he added.

While RCB endured a rough patch early on in IPL 2024, losing six consecutive matches, they staged a remarkable comeback by winning the next six. They clinched a playoff spot with a thrilling victory over CSK in their final league game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, their journey ended in the Eliminator where they were defeated by the Rajasthan Royals led by Sanju Samson.
