Key Insights

201: Australia’s swashbuckling batter, Glenn Maxwell, played a once-in-a-lifetime innings in the 2023 World Cup against Afghanistan. The cricketing world witnessed a ‘Mad Max’ show as he slammed the third-highest individual score in World Cup history and the highest of this edition.

And what’s more impressive is that this knock came while chasing a target and when Australia was in a tricky situation. Maxwell’s knock also ended up being the highest score in a chase in the World Cup.

137: Travis Head scored a match-winning 137 runs in the 2023 World Cup final, making him the third Australian batter to score a century in the final.

134: Among the top 10 innings on this list, except for Daryl Mitchell’s knock, all other innings came in winning causes. Mitchell scored 134 runs against India in the first semi-final in Mumbai, but India defeated New Zealand by 70 runs. Coincidentally, Mitchell’s other century (130) also came against India in Dharamsala, but this knock also went in vain as India won by 4 wickets.

40: Apart from Maxwell’s double century, his another knock of 106 runs created a history of smashing the fastest century in World Cup history. He accumulated his hundred off just 40 balls, going past Aiden Markram, who scored his ton in 49 balls in the same edition.

100: South Africa’s opener, Quinton de Kock, who retired after this edition from ODIs, struck 4 50+ knocks. And all of them were centuries, with one each hammered against Sri Lanka, Australia, Bangladesh, and New Zealand.

3: When de Kock scored his hundred against Sri Lanka, his two other batting partners — Aiden Markram and Rassie Van der Dussen — also notched up their individual centuries in the same game. This went down in the record books as the first instance of 3 centuries scored in an innings in a World Cup game.
