The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is still eight months away, but the excitement surrounding the tournament has already begun, especially with the mega auction scheduled to occur before the event.
The mega auction offers an excellent chance for IPL teams to rebuild their squads from the ground up, keeping their core units intact.

Chennai Super Kings, one of the most successful franchises in the IPL, will also look to strengthen their squad for the 2025 season, keeping their core players who have consistently performed well over the past few years.
Here are the top four players that the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings, are likely to retain before the IPL 2025 auction:

Ruturaj Gaikwad:
The first name on the list of retained players will be Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who took over the reins after MS Dhoni stepped down just before IPL 2024.
Ruturaj Gaikwad has consistently led the team from the front, providing strong starts for the team and managing collapses effectively. CSK will be keen to retain him at any cost.

Ravindra Jadeja:
The second name on Chennai Super Kings’ retained player list will be Ravindra Jadeja, who has been a dedicated member of the team for many years.
Although once considered the successor to MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja struggled with captaincy. However, he has consistently been the team’s backbone with both bat and ball.

Jadeja was instrumental in Chennai Super Kings’ fifth IPL title win in the 2023 season. The team will be eager to retain him.
Shivam Dube:
Chennai Super Kings are expected to retain Shivam Dube as their third player, especially for his powerful hitting.

Dube has showcased his talent for winning games single-handedly, consistently hitting towering sixes at the expansive Chepauk stadium. His impressive bowling skills are an added advantage, and CSK will be keen to keep him.
Matheesha Pathirana:
Among the overseas players, Chennai Super Kings will surely look to retain Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana, whom they have groomed over the past few years and who has rewarded them with impressive performances.

Pathirana has always credited Chennai Super Kings, and especially MS Dhoni, for his success, even while representing Sri Lanka, and he considers CSK his second home.
Known as the young Lasith Malinga, Pathirana possesses immense talent and is one of the finest young fast bowlers in the IPL. CSK will likely retain his services before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
