Karachi Kings skipper Babar Azam is likely to leave the franchise ahead of the new season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2023. Azam led Karachi Kings in the 2022 edition and has failed to inspire the side to ultimate glory.
Karachi Kings finished the PSL 2022 at the bottom of the points table with just two wins from ten matches. In fact, team mentor Wasim Akram once criticised Babar and called him a “selfish player” who doesn’t want to sacrifice his batting position for his team.
The 28-year-old batter has faced severe criticism regarding his approach in the shortest format of the game of late. The right-handed batter has failed to make an impact with the bat in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, managing to score just 38 runs in five innings.
The former cricketers and cricket pundits have pinpointed the defensive approach of both openers of Pakistan in the ongoing showpiece tournament in the country down under and suggested Babar Azam play the role of aggressor rather than an anchor.
As per reports, Babar Azam himself doesn’t want to be part of Karachi Kings anymore and the franchise will soon name the new captain of the franchise. The date for the Pakistan Super Super (PSL) Draft 2023 is yet to be announced with the tournament slated to take place from February 9 to March 19 across four venues in Pakistan.
